Battelle's Technology Forecasts
I am a fan of Battelle's
annual Technology
Forecasts. Not only are they pretty much on the mark, they are
a useful touchstone for ascertaining how rapidly technology really advances.
For example, at least half of the technologies predicted in 1995 for 2005
were already available in 2000.

Red Herring's Forecasts
I was a fan of Red Herring's
annual list of ten top trends. Unfortunately, it was a victim of
the dot.com crash and has terminated publication, though their Web site
remains active. The difference between Battelle's and Red Herring's
lists is that Battelle's timeframe is typically a decade, whereas Red
Herring's is the year ahead impact of these broader trends.
Both views are useful in looking into the future.
