Battelle's Technology Forecasts

I am a fan of Battelle's annual Technology Forecasts.  Not only are they pretty much on the mark, they are a useful touchstone for ascertaining how rapidly technology really advances.  For example, at least half of the technologies predicted in 1995 for 2005 were already available in 2000.

2002 - Top Ten Innovations in Home Comfort and Convenience in 2012
2001 - Top Ten Healthy Home Trends for 2010
2000 - Top Ten Energy Innovations for 2010
1999 - Ten Strategic Technologies for 2020
1999 - Top Ten Drivers of Consumer Value by 2010
1998 - Top Ten Breakthroughs for Future Household Products by 2008
1997 - Technology's Top Ten Challenges and Opportunities for 2007
1996 - Ten Most Innovative Products for 2006
1995 - Top Ten Technologies for 2005 - read Terry's review

Red Herring's Forecasts

I was a fan of Red Herring's annual list of ten top trends.  Unfortunately, it was a victim of the dot.com crash and has terminated publication, though their Web site remains active.  The difference between Battelle's and Red Herring's lists is that Battelle's timeframe is typically a decade, whereas Red Herring's is the year ahead impact of these broader trends.  Both views are useful in looking into the future.
